WHAT

An exploration of social "tarantella" dances from the south of Italy, with a focus on the pizzica from Puglia.

From ancestral roots to contemporary revivals, we’ll learn how these place-based pastoral dances come to life in community gathering: with movements, codes, and songs. Following conversational dynamics rather than set choreography, these dances offer sets of codified movements which form a moving dialogue between dancers. 

Open to all ages and skill levels, no dance experience required. 

Bring a water bottle and wear clothing that you’re comfortable moving in. 

No street shoes are permitted in the studio, non-marking dance shoes, socks, or bare feet only.

COST

Early Bird Through September 10th:

$25 per class or $100 for all 6

Standard Registration:
$25 per class

20% of class fees after space rental are donated to the United Indians of All Tribes Foundation

FACILITATOR

Kate Causbie is a photographer, writer, and teacher with a background in ecopsychology and somatics. She spends half the year in Southern Italy, originally based near the area of Puglia that her great grandparents came from, in pursuit of living music and dance traditions. Diving into a region where she at first knew nothing and no one, it was the following the path of dance that led her into community and connection.
